photos n blogs

One of the biggest reasons peeps put photos on Flickr is the fact that photos can be statically linked not to mention their API is quite open so Flock integrations are to be expected.

So if all goes well - this will be a picture of my friend G who just left for the states after 2 1/2 years in Thailand.  He is one of the best friends I made during the last 3 years and here he is trying Skype for the first time - exactly how we plan to keep in touch!

ok - now to try to drag a photo from the photo bar!

ps. intersting coinky-dink - just saw this post by YackPack founder that audio sustains itself more than photos!   (Flock community: look fwd to the audio/multimedia integration next!)

I'm playing around with evaluating Flock right now. I wasn't too hot on it 9 months ago but ever since I saw a photo integration with PhotoBucket and realized they also have Flickr support, I decided to give it another look.

So far it's a mixed experience - not quite Firefox, not quite Camino, not quite Mac OS X (aka. I want my emacs bindings dammit!), not quite a RSS Reader like Vienna. All the elements are there and it's gonna be a tough call from a UI perspective as to how to integrate it all together: blogs, photos, news, web, favorites, etc.

If all works well - this will go out to my mashup blog!

double-edged sword

after taking on being debt-free through college and into my professional life – i fell into debt when i lost my job and decided to start something on my own. it wasn’t until I got out to Thailand and decided I’d start over that I gave up material assets in the spirit of peace of mind – best thing I could have ever done!

now the confidence to take on debt again after you’ve reach this point is really the tricky part – borrowing money has value!!!

was an exhilarating experience – thought the reality of it all is a landed too hard and was on crutches for awhile due to a sprained ankle. certainly won’t say this will happen to everyone – you’ve been warned!

this dashboard thing is cool!   it's really convenient to write to my blog given its nature to just pop up and go away (Dashboard behaviour!)

the new mac mini is out!  Intel Core Duo -  say it isn't true!

what I like:
- built-in line in (no more iMic folks)
- *4* USB ports (toss the hub)
- Tiger (hey i'm ole skool with Panther on my original mini)
- iLife 06 (the anti-productivity suite! :)  (seriously look fwd to creating my first podcast - i need to get an iPod though!)
- the remote (Morn will love this one - why be so excited about a TV?   i hope they ironed out the kinks in Front Row though - it sucked last i tried it - it was a hack though so take my comments with a grain of salt)

will have to invest in:
- DL SuperDrive (ok i'm sick of my hokey homeboy external DVD-RW - just gets in the way!  double layer to boot)
- 120GB HDD (i might be proud to get my base
install down to 2GB - redundancy is king! speaking of which - i gotta get round to that cron job...)
- another 1GB (i just bought a 1 gig stick!)

will have to figure out what to do with:
- bluetooth (been dreaming of Skype 100m bluetooth headset instead of buying a cordless phone!)
- wifi (won't have immediate use - thought about AirTunes though.  will get rid of the obnoxious phone wire that goes across the whole condo though!)

ok - i'm gonna have to figure out how to scrunge up $799...definitely not an immediate need so "not now" is cool - however the minute someone figures out how to get Windoze to boot - i'm already there! :)   (btw, it's beyond me why they didn't include such support in the first place...so goes life!)

ps. so how do I set the title on this post from this widget - was this an oversight or am I missing something?

woo hoo!   Google appears to be upping up support for Mac OS X - first it was Google Earth, now we got widgets!

Now whether this development will cause me to give up my LiveJournal the boot - only time will tell! ;-)

On  my wish list:
- Google Calendar
- Google Desktop integrated with Spotlight
- full Plaxo/Google/AB/iCal integration

i think it's kinda silly that if you know someone's Mail-To-Blogger email address, that you can post to their blog!   why not have a list of emails that a permitted to post?

whoa..it's been a loooooooooooooooooooooong time since posting to this blog - this is like the hidden blog the hidden me - the closet chin! i just read my last blog from before i made my trip to thailand (and before my last burn) and whoa...I can hardly recognize myself! :-o

i'm sooooooooooooo freakin bored right now - wondering what to do in seemingly the middle of nowhere (i'm quite far removed from central bangkok) ... yes...i suppose reading that last post made me realize how hyperactive i am - it's a total breakthrough to just be in this apt for the last 3 days - yes, i haven't gone anywhere! i live in this house happy as i can be - doing what i can to make myself happy...i share this new home with my partner and she's a really wonderful woman and the mother of my future child! yes - you heard me right, i haven't quite announced this on my "official" journal...i consider my LiveJournal to be my professional journal - whatever that means - what's the point of having two journals? what's the point of not sharing as freely as one would like?

ok..i don't have any more to write for now - i want a freakin good chair god dammit! (excuse my french!)

wow....what a freakin whirlwind....i go with my intuition to call a friend and next thing i know we're supposed to get together. another friend (yes, anonymous for now) calls me with integrity and i don't know what to do this wkd...it sounds so sneaky! in any case, my friend is sure to call me back per his promise and we decide to go out...it's kinda funny cuz i met his new friend and wonder what kinds of first impression i make. i'm really worried that i'm too open...is there such a thing? eveything is fine at the first gig....i get to know the group of people who are there..just getting along with a bunch of new people...i keep open to what's there and realize i really have a knack for connecting with people..at least this is what i experience....this may not be the experience of others but i digress. i am grinding my teeth right now and it worries me...i don't even do this when i'm on e...i'm hyperactive right now and it's 3:39 am and should i worry..shoudl i just take advantage of this time and just stay awake...i remember beth's last words is to meditate and perhaps this is what there is to do....my mind is in what in computer terms is called a "race condition" time to jsut have fun with it. laters.

Alright! I'm back in the states and it's been a trip just experiencing American culture both in SF and LA. I am now realizing what I'm missing. Not to say there aren't things I miss about Thailand though...I so want to be there and make it happen.

Fascinating to see what developments there are in the technology world. I've been a big fan of the Google Toolbar for quite some time now and they've got their latest and greatest offering in beta. I'm literally using one of their new features called "BlogThis!" to write this blog. Another feature which "looks" useful is a site-by-site pop-up killer (oh I mean blocker):
